Hotel Hanrahans
HAMILTON, ONTARIO
CGS prepared a concept study to adaptively reuse the historic Hotel Hanrahans instead of demolish it, instead proposing converting it into a boutique hotel, with restaurants and bars on the ground and lower floors.
A residential tower rising on the vast parking lot provides much needed housing and potentially more hotel rooms, while the heritage building provides a high calibre front entrance and lobby space and a unique identity. Interstitial space around the heritage building and new tower provides generous outdoor patio and garden amenity space.
This vision helped spur the owners to abandon plans for a low-rise office building and a few townhouses on the site, and reconsider a better, more appropriate, higher and better development concept with considerably higher value and catalytic potential for the community also.
